Fire Warden
The VT. State Forest Fire Warden program is 105 yrs. old, and it has been a successful program run by the Department of Forests and Parks.
Burn Permit:
- Pick up a permit between the hours of 6:30am to 10:30am
- Daily permits are issued at the Stowe Quick Mart on South Main Street
- Fill out and sign for the permit if burning is allowed that day
- Burn only natural wood and brush
- DO NOT BURN painted or treated wood of any kind, no cardboard or rubbish. Home owner burn barrels are being outlawed.
- All Fires must be extinguished before dusk.
- WARNING: Any fire left unattended or left burning after dusk and needs to be extinguished by the local Fire Department is subject to a state fine as well as a bill from the Fire Department.
The town of Stowe has always had an appointed Forest Fire Warden and Deputy Fire Warden. The Town Select Board approves the names and then they are sent to the state for appointment.
A State Fire Warden receives a stipend of $15.00 a year and attends one state training meeting a each year.
Stowe’s Fire Wardens handle between 1300 to 1500 permits a burning season. A burning permit is needed anytime any outdoor burning is done.
