Update from Mike Rutigliano

Dear Stowe Fire Department,

Hello everyone. It has been around 9 months since I have seen you all and I wanted to give you an update. Things in Indianapolis are going pretty well but after almost 10 years from being away not a whole lot is different. They have certainly seen the need for updating roads and highways and have done a pretty good job. The sky line has change a little with the additional of Lucas Oil Stadium, new home of the Colts, and the implosion of their former home, the RCA Dome. I do have to say that it’s nice be home, even if it’s only for a few years. And I ended up buying a house on the northern side of the city. It’s a 2 bedroom 1 story with a basement and a decent yard. I live a few streets away from a big hang out spot called Broadripple. It’s kind of like Church Street with respect to bars and restaurants but with city parks and less shopping. For the most part I feel pretty settled.

My Address should any of you need it:

Job wise everything is going like it’s supposed to. The hotel is 34 floors, 1,000 rooms and a 1 million sf Ballroom/Meeting Room Section. If you want to check it out online our project website is

www.huntjwindy.com

. There are interior renderings, construction photos and a link to a web cam. It’s going to stand out quite a bit once it is complete as it is a few blocks away from anything with substantial height, but that won’t be for another year.

As for Fire Fighting, it’s a lot more difficult than I thought it would be to get involved. Everything seems to be full time. I was looking into getting involved at the station a few blocks away but I have heard it is could be closing soon. They lost there engine in 2006 and only have 2 suburban type trucks for support now. I am still looking to take classes in something so I haven’t given up. I will say that I still jolt when I hear a siren or think a pager going off and I should be driving to the station to get gear, someday again. Also, I want to apologize for not writing sooner as this is long overdue. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your livelihood, changing my life and opening the door to fire fighting and rescue, I am a different person because of you. Thanks. Be safe and have fun.

Sincerely,

Mike Rutigliano
